Revisiting Multiculturalism

- G. N. Trivedi

Abstract

The contemporary world is passing through fundamental changes; the myth of homogeneity has been replaced by multiple forms of cultural expressions, necessitating social formation of polities and federal formation of nation. Contemporary globalization has created a new category of market driven identity of the people where homogenization has been characteristically pushed forward through such intellectual articulation like the clash of civilization and the remaking of the world order. The privileging of culture without combining it with some kind universal human values might lead it to the direction of relativism where danger of cultural reductionism cannot be overlooked.
